CGT is running in the PA-B2 sector with the candidacy: “Universitat Roja i Negra” [Red and Black University]

Why are we running?

The University model is sustained by exploitation and insecurity. It is a dismantlement of the public service under the neoliberal model. On top of that we have to add the hierarchical nature of the institution. From CGT we oppose this bluntly. We want a university that is popular, feminist and with decent work.

We are running in this election to contribute to block neoliberal university policies, protect the most precarious groups and call for the fulfillment of their demands. To make UPC and catalan public universities spaces that are democratic, critical, emancipatory, with life and care in site, politicised, anti-fascist, compromised against genocides and human rights violations and coherent with environmental protection and sustainability. Evidently we also want to influence the representation bodies: Governing Council, University Senate and all the other commissions that form it.
Our objective is to defend a public university where knowledge is not commodified, but instead responds to social and public necessities, as well as fighting against work uncertainty of all faculty challenging the present neoliberal model.
We know that we need assembling, mobilization and wide political incidence inside and outside representation bodies. That is why we never stopped summoning assemblies, strikes and actions in addition to creating work groups or making concrete campaigns.

We have organised multiple protest actions:

We have given visibility to precariousness, avoided firings, demanded the fourth year for protectorate contracts, worked for the salary increase of associates with higher pay, pressed the Board of Universities to negotiate work and salary conditions of the most precarious group in catalan universities, that being substitute professors, and worked for pre- and postdocs to have continuity inside UPC.

We have been present at all organised actions for UPC to break ties with the Israeli state and make UPC an institution and community compromised against genocides and fascism. From 2023 until now we have worked against Genocide:

Our main work proposal are:

  • Dignify the work conditions of all employed PA: predoc researchers, associate and substitute professors, postdoc researchers, lectors and associates.
  • Increase the pay for associate professors.
  • Accomplish work and salary dignity for the new figure of substitute professor.
  • Guarantee the continuity of the academic career for everybody, associate professors, pre- and postdoc researchers and lector professors.
  • Equate the work and salary conditions of aggregate professors with permanent ones.
  • Eradicate all abusive or exclusionary practice for the reason of gender, sexual difference, social class, race or functional diversity.
  • Fight for a university in catalan and with democracy.
  • Fight for a University for a public University active and positionedd against genocide and fascism.
  • Watch over for a university compromised with the environment and a sustainability far from greenwashing, and environmental health at the worksite.
  • Fight for a university with less hierarchy and more democracy.
  • Continue with the fight for working and social rights, improvement of work conditions, mutual aid, direct action, social justice, common wellbeing economy, solidarity, equality, freedom, environmentalism, feminism, transparency, diffusion of information, active fight, self-management, coordination, cooperation, technological sovereignty and confederalism.
